Practicum Supervision Instructions

Assignments

Commit this ministry experience to the Lord. Pray for Him to guide you to the people who will be receptive to the Christ-centered counseling process.

1. Invite individuals to meet with you that:

  • confess they have a problem,
  • are open to biblical solutions, and
  • are ready to take responsibility to learn and apply relevant remedial discipleship content.

Take confidential case notes that include relevant information on the counselee’s presenting problem(s), history, and self-life. Record what you cover in the counseling process including assigned homework. You could use or adapt the “Case Notes form.”

Track the time spent in the formal counseling process. See “GFI Practicum Record” form.

2. For every 10 hours of personal ministry, make an appointment and place a phone call to your GFI supervisor. For sample discussion questions used during these calls, see the “Supervisory Questions” document.

3. Prepare and present a “Three Cross Testimony” about your salvation (John 3:16), surrender (Romans 12:1,2) and identification with Christ (Galatians 2:20). Listen to this Three Cross Testimony audio lecture. Notes: three-cross-testimony_jbw  Send this testimony (written or recorded) to your GFI supervisor.

4. Ask two people you have counseled to write a testimony of their appreciation of the counseling process that includes a reference to their appropriation of Christ as Life. Send in, or ask them to send in, this testimonial document to your counseling supervisor. See “GFI Testimony form.”

5. Take the Core Knowledge Review. This is an open book, online test. Request the online test link from [email protected]

6. Write a brief paper summarizing the benefits you have received from the GFI training. Include the ways you have used this ministry model, and any vision / goals you may have for continued growth and personal ministry. Send this by email or email attachment to your supervisor.
