This 5 lesson study is designed to be used one-to-one, with a couple or class. The goal is to ensure the person has a saving relationship with God and then to lay a basic foundation for grace-based discipleship.
The booklet was written by Dr. Phil Jones, who serves as Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church, Powell, Tennessee. The church uses this material to reach and teach visitors as a prerequisite for membership. It is part of a ministry called T.E.L.L. – Teaching Exchanged Life Living. It is an explanation of the basics of a growing, personal relationship with the Lord. As these verses declare:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:16,17).
“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).
A teacher’s edition is also available to equip disciplers to more effectively use these lessons. Dr. Jones gives the basis and strategy of this course in his talk, “Teaching Exchanged Life Living” which is available at the GFI audio channel.
There is an online course based on this study.
This tool is used extensively at the pilot ministry, First Baptist Church, Powell, TN. It is effective for initiatives such as outreach, one-to-one discipling, welcoming new members, and short term mission trips.
GFI has also received positive testimonies from prison ministry via chaplains and volunteers.
